Advocacy

Having a mental illness, or experiencing mental health distress and / or addiction issues can sometimes mean that your views and wishes are not taken seriously. This can result in not being informed or offered the opportunities and choices you would like.

Our advocate is here to help support you and will always act from a position of understanding and without judgement.

We can assist you with many situations where you may be struggling to speak for yourself. The help you want may be just someone to talk to and plan with or you may need our advocate to accompany you to a meeting and to speak on your behalf. They will only ever advocate for you with your permission.

We can support you to have your voice heard at appointments, inform you of your rights, help if you want to make a complaint and have your views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about your life and well being.

We do this through careful listening and support, helping to write emails, letters etc. and accompanying you to meetings, court, etc. and then debriefing afterwards.

Our advocate can assist you with:

  • Work & Income (WINZ)
  • Housing and accommodation
  • Landlords
  • Employment issues
  • Social Services

  • Counselling referrals
  • Medical professionals such as your GP and psychiatrist
