Our Vision

Pathways to Wellbeing – Nga Ara Oranga

Supporting Families Wairarapa aims to provide the best possible education, advocacy and support for individuals and family / whānau of people experiencing a mental illness and / or addiction.

We do this by providing a range of effective and efficient programmes with, or activities on behalf of, people with mental illness and addictions, their families / whānau and caregivers.

We carry a message of hope for family / whānau and people who are experiencing mental illness and / or addiction.

We believe that families / whānau can play a key role in the recovery process for someone who experiences a mental illness and / or addiction. We use the terms ‘family’ and ‘whānau’ to describe anyone who cares for or supports a person experiencing a mental illness or addiction.

Our Journey

Supporting Families began in 1987, formed by a group of Wairarapa carers who had been attending the Wellington Supporting Families branch. They hired two rooms in Perry Street and began as a carer support service…
